Sending this much later than planned, so I’ll be brief! The next Track Changes, coming up on October 13, will be a special edition! We’ll be back at our beloved Solar Myth next time, but this time….
We’re celebrating musician and poet Eric Paul’s new poetry collection, Providence, out now with Heartworm Press. Eric will be joined by his book tourmate, Philly poet & erstwhile (by his accounting) punk musician Keith Kopka.
We’ll be at the Neon Clown Dream Lounge for this one, & Matt Korvette (known to many as the vocalist of Pissed Jeans; known to attendees of this series as my dutiful sound guy & sweetheart) will be DJing some records from his vault during our afters hang. Join us in the technicolor bizzaro-world of the clown lounge! No tickets needed for this one; PWYW as usual & we’ll be taking donations at the event.
I try not to editorialize because the whole fun of this, really, is peeking into another writer’s affinities, appetites, acumen, experiences, etc. as related to music, but… I have a real soft spot for regional hardcore & noise band affinities, this being part of my own identity formation, & we’ll definitely be going there. (Eric himself also being, as you may be aware, a member of seminal noise band Arab on Radar.)
Also (last aside, I swear), I used to intern for Heartworm when I was just a baby poet, & really vibe with their DIY ethos & tilt toward the avant-garde & countercultural. (They had me copyediting Genesis P. Orridge poems, if you can imagine…)
Okay, that’s enough out of me— see you there!!
… Wait, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t share the playlist from September’s wonderful event. Shout out to these two for taking us on a journey through early psychobilly, Australian outlaw rockers, Lou Reed’s dark nights of the soul in the 1980s, girl group baddies of the 1960s, queer lovers making tunes together, Elliott Smith before we knew him that way—plus stellar readings!
